Venus Solar Water Heater Introduction
Solar Water Heater – With the spiraling cost of electricity this healthy alternative to heating water not only saves money but also runs for a long, long time. Venus has introduced vacuum tube technology in Solar water heaters for the first time.

INTRODUCTION TO VENUS (VTC) ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

We at Venus believe in bringing the benefits of the latest technology to our consumers. Now, in Solar Water Heaters too Venus introduces “Vacuum tube collectors” for the time in India. Internationally renowned & accepted, this technology is superior to other prevalent systems in performance, reliability & ease of installation. Breakthrough technology that taps the unlimited power of the sun to give you enormous energy savings year after year.

Working of Venus VTC Solar Water Heater

The Venus Vaccum Tube Collector solar water heater is made up of rows of parallel, transparent glass tubes. Each tube consists of a glass outer tube and an inner tube, or absorber, covered with a selective coating that absorbs solar energy well but inhibits radioactive heat loss. The air is withdrawn ("evacuated") from the space between the tubes to form a vacuum, which eliminates conductive and convective heat loss.

The Vacuum tube collector abosrobs the heat from the solar radiation & heats up the water stored in the system through the Thermosiphonic effect.

What is Thermosiphonic Effect

A thermosiphon system relies on warm water rising, a phenomenon known as natural convection, to circulate water through the collectors and to the tank. In this type of installation, the tank must be above the collector. As water in the collector heats, it becomes lighter and rises naturally into the tank above. Meanwhile, cooler water in the tank flows down pipes to the bottom of the collector, causing circulation throughout the system. This is called Thermosiphonic Effect. This process continues steadily for a numer of hours till the water stored in the tank is heated up. Very high Temperatures upto 80-85 deg C can be had from such a system.

The water heated in this manner is stored overnight in the insulated storage tank and is available for use the next day.

Superiorty Of Vacuum Tube Collector Technology

Vacuum tube collector

Flat Plate collector

1. Heat absorptions from the infrared rays of solar radiation instead of the visible light rays, so during winter and cloudy days, the system absorbs infrared rays as usual. Heat absorption occurs from the visible light rays, On cloudy days performance will be affected significantly.

2. Heat absorbing surface is always perpendicular to sunlight because of spherical collectors

Heat absorption surface will be perpendicular to sunlight only for a short time.
3. Heating continues till late evening It falls down after 2 p.m
4. It gives 10 o C higher temperature of hot water in winter & Cloudy days. It is not possible in FPC as heating efficiency falls significantly on cloudy and winter days.
5. The vacuum inside the collector tubes vastly reduces overnight heat loss Heat loss will be more at night from collector panels.
6. Salt or scale formation when using hard water will be reduced Scale formation will be more and may choke the narrow pipes within the collector.
7. Scale deposits slide off the smooth glass walls to accumulate at the bottom from where they can be easily removed. Once the scale deposits are formed it stops the flow of water; the removal of scale is also some what difficult.
8. Installation of the system is very easy Installation of the system is not easy as VTC
9. Area required for installation will be very less It require more area compared to VTC
10.Incase of damage to the collector tubes, individual tube can be replaced. But here entire flat plate has to be replaced and it involves high cost for replacement.

FAQS

1.Is it very expensive?

When compared to an electric heater the Venus solar heater may sound slightly expensive. But a solar heater will pay back its investment in 2-3 years, through recurring energy savings.Besides with the government push towards tapping solar power you can avail easy loans from nationalized banks at nominal interest rates. You may also be eligible for rebates on your electricity bills in some states.

2.What could happen if water supply is irregular?

Incase cold water supply is interrupted during the day , the heating of water by the solar system may not be affected significantly, although hot water cannot be drawn for use till the water supply is restored.

3.Will I get power and hot water from this system?

No, Solar hot water panels only heat water. They do not generate electricity from sunlight. As the sun hits the glass tubes in the panel, water gets heated and flows back into the tank. Solar electric panels are made of silicon and convert sunlight directly into electricity. They are different from solar hot water panels.

4.What will happen on cloudy days?

The VTC model solar water heater will continue to function even on cloudy days due to heat absorption from the infrared rays of sunlight. Efficiency would be affected, however, on rainy days.

5.Can I get hot water during early morning when sun is not there?

Hot water produced by the solar system during the day is stored in an insulated storage tank. The insulation of the tank is such that the water remains hot without significant drop in temperature for around 24 hrs. Thus water heated during the previous day is available for use the next morning.

6.What are the Maintenance requirements?

Venus VTC solar water heating systems do not need significance maintenance. The collector tubes may need annual cleaning to remove accumulated scale and sediment deposits at the bottom. The system is resistant to adverse effects of weather as it is made of stainless steel.

7.Can I use Hot water from the solar water heater in the evening or night?

Using the Hot water in the evening or night will result in hot water being unavailable the next morning as the system will not heat water overnight. If you wish to use hot water in the evening too, then choose a larger capacity of solar water heater that meets your needs.

8.What is the expected life of a solar water heater?

Venus VTC solar water heaters can last for 15-20 years depending upon the general upkeep.

Model Selection Guide
Domestic Use :

Model
Capacity
No:of persons
No: of outlets
110 LPD 110 liters Up to 4 2
200 LPD 200 liters Up to 8 4

BANKING FOR HIGHER CAPACITY
We can bank individual systems to get higher capacity by connecting the systems in series, parallel or series/parallel combinations as shown below. For example to get 1100 LPD, we can bank 10 * 110 LPD systems in series or parallel to get 1100 LPD capacity. More than 1100 LPD is also possible by similar way of banking. This type of banking will be suitable for meeting the larger requirements of hotels, hostels, hospitals, resorts etc.
APPLICATIONS:
Besides individual houses, the VTC solar water heater can also be used for Schools, Hostels, Hotels, Dairies, Breweries, Canteens and Industries like Automotive, Fertilizer, Chemical, Textiles, Pharmaceuticals etc.
