An induction motor used in traditional fans uses a series of coils powered by AC input voltage to create magnetic fields in the stator (static part) and induced magnetic field in the rotor (rotating part).
BLDC motors, in contrast, use permanent magnets for the rotor which creates a magnetic field. For the stator, a low DC voltage is applied to coil windings along with sensorless electronic control to develop a rotating magnetic field. This rotating magnetic field of the stator interacts with the rotor magnetic field to develop a constant torque that causes rotation.
Due to sensorless electronic control and frictionless commutation, BLDC motor based fans produce less heat and consequently higher efficiency.
For wider distribution of BLDC fans, provisions are made for AC input voltage that are subsequently converted to DC through SMPS. This enables our fans to operate across a wide range of input voltages (120-280V) with steady high rotating speeds and attractive air delivery.
